Job Title: BSL Teaching Assistant
Location: Southwark

Are you fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) and eager to make a positive impact in the lives of students?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the team as a BSL Teaching Assistant at a Primary School based in Greenwich.
This Primary school is a reputable educational institution committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students. We are seeking a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to work alongside our teaching staff, assisting students with hearing impairments to achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities:
- Provide in-classroom support to students with hearing impairments, assisting them in understanding and following instructions.
- Facilitate effective communication between teachers and students by using British Sign Language (BSL) and other appropriate methods.
- Adapt classroom materials and resources to accommodate the needs of students with hearing impairments.
- Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and encouraged to participate.
- Collaborate with teachers and other educational professionals to develop and implement strategies for supporting students with hearing impairments.
- Monitor and record the progress of students, providing feedback to teachers and parents/guardians as required.
- Promote independence and self-advocacy skills among students with hearing impairments.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students during classroom activities and school events.
Requirements:
- Fluent in British Sign Language (BSL) - minimum BSL Level 3 qualification required.
- Experience working with individuals with hearing impairments, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively convey information using BSL.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special needs.
- Knowledge of different strategies and techniques for supporting students with hearing impairments.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
- Commitment to always maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Relevant qualifications, such as a Teaching Assistant qualification or a degree in Education, would be an advantage.
