Job description

Higher Level Teaching Assistant

We are working on behalf of a vibrant and inclusive primary school in Waltham Forest that is committed to delivering exceptional outcomes for all pupils. The school also hosts a Specialist Resource Provision supporting deaf pupils, and fosters a collaborative, community-focused learning environment.

They are currently seeking a committed, enthusiastic, and high-calibre Sports Coach or Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with responsibility for PE to join their energetic and dynamic team.

This role is ideal for a confident and flexible HLTA who is comfortable delivering PE lessons across the primary age range, while also being available to cover classes when required.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be confident in delivering PE lessons across the full primary range

  • Have a background in sports coaching or a strong passion for teaching PE

  • Possess strong organisational skills and a good understanding of health and safety in a school setting

  • Be capable of mentoring and supporting staff, providing guidance in PE delivery, and running extra-curricular sports activities

  • Be highly motivated and eager to contribute to the wider school community

  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and work effectively as part of a team

  • Hold GCSEs (A*-C or equivalent) in English and Mathematics

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging PE lessons across all year groups

  • Lead after-school sports clubs and extra-curricular activities

  • Support and mentor teachers in PE instruction, monitoring and enhancing quality where needed

  • Act as the school's Sports Lead

  • Assist in organising and supporting local and borough-wide sports competitions

  • Provide general classroom cover when required

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with enthusiasm, strong values, and high expectations to make a real impact on children's lives.
