SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant | September Start | Greenwich | Full Time - Monday to Friday | Long term, Term time only - 9am until 4pm | £110- £130 a day depending on experience
Remedy Education are supporting a large SEN Secondary school, 11-19 special needs provision based in Greenwich that are looking to recruit a SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant. You will play a key role in shaping this exciting new provision, right from the very start. You will support the growth of the school and teaching assistant team and be a mentor for a newly appointed staff. You will be supporting students with ASD and PMLD.
As the new higher level teaching assistant within the provision, your role will be to support the class teacher and SENCO with all elements of the day to day running of the class/s and to teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the class teacher. You will take the lead in the absence of a class teacher and assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment.
You will be expected to know and understand the class teacher's curriculum planning and plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed system of supervision.
An expectation of a higher-level teaching assistant is to establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils in order to support them feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn during their time at the school. You will promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.
Skills and Qualification:
- Higher level teaching assistant diploma or equivalent level 4 qualification is desirable but not required
- GCSE Pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths
- Relevant knowledge of experience of pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD
- Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
- Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including manager behaviours that challenge
- Be positive and creative in assisting to meet pupils individual needs
