Job description

SEN Primary Class Teacher Required in Southwark - January 2025 start

The school is currently recruiting for a teacher with the ability to plan and teach to Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils (5 to 11 years old). The school caters for children with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and additional associated Learning Difficulties (including severe and complex social and behavioural needs).

In addition, all classes will be fully supported with Teaching/Learning Support Assistants, the typical class sizes are between 6-8, there will be significant gaps in the pupils knowledge and understanding which will need to be addressed and planned for.

Salary: £180 - £210 per day
Location: Southwark
Contract Type: Long term
Start Date: January 2025 start

The successful applicants will have:

  • Previous experience teaching at KS1 and/or KS2 (ideally with QTS).
  • Ability to plan and deliver high quality, engaging lessons.
  • Experience teaching and/or working with student with special needs.
  • Previous experience dealing with challenging behaviour & excellent behaviour management skills.
  • Ability to adapt lessons to cater to students individual learning level/ability.
  • A calm, patient manner and ability to react positively to a fast-changing environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with staff, parents and students.

The role will consist of:

  • Teaching to a class of varying needs including varied types of learning levels.
  • Work closely with students, their parents/careers and other members of staff to make sure that the students are happy and learning well.
  • Adapting the syllabus according to the individual students EHCP.
  • Make appropriate use of a range of monitoring and assessment strategies to evaluate pupils progress.
  • Focused on improving long term outcomes for our young people.
