SEN Teaching Assistant | Immediate Paid Trials | South East London

Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

Start: ASAP

Contract: Full time

Interview Type: Paid Trial Days

Location: Newham, East London

School Type: Secondary

Rate: £90-£103 per day

We are seeking a caring and committed Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to work at one of our leading Secondary schools in South East London.

The successful SEN TA will primarily support a Year 7 child with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). This SEN TA role will require you to collaborate with the classroom teacher and other education staff, providing outstanding support and initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a child with specific learning needs, in line with their EHCP.
  • Assist with classroom tasks, ensuring the child remains engaged and supported during lessons.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to monitor and report on the child's progress.
  • Adapt learning materials to support the child's development and ensure inclusion in all activities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting the educational and emotional development of young learners.
  • Personal care, behaviour management, 1;1 support role (life skills, visuals, activites)

    Most students are non-verbal, Makaton & PECS is advantageous.

  • Experience working with students with behavioural challenges, preferably in an educational or special education setting.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques, positive reinforcement strategies, and de-escalation methods.
  • Ability to establish rapport and build positive relationships with students, demonstrating patience, empathy, and understanding.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and the educational environment.
