Job description

Wiltshire is proud to be one of the country's largest and most ambitious planning authorities. Their Planning Service is responsible for the delivery of future growth of Wiltshire, ensuring that decisions are taken that deliver high quality place-shaping, following policy guidance and best practice in urban design.

It's both a statutory and regulatory service responsible for delivering housing and employment as set out in the adopted Local Plan.

The Development Management Service is responsible for determining planning applications and listed building consent for new development in line with policy and legislation. While some of the decision-making process is subjective, there is a high degree of legal and prescriptive procedure which must be followed to conform with legislation and guidance.

The service helps to deliver the council's business plan, by providing new development, economic growth and environmental protection and sustainability. About the role Working alongside the communities in Wiltshire, and many statutory stakeholders, such as Environment Agency, Historic England and the town and parish councils, this role helps to preserve and enhance the natural and built environment.

As the Head of Planning Development Management, report to the Director of Planning, responsible for the performance of the Development Management service, providing leadership to the team and ensuring the appropriate determination of planning and related applications and planning enforcement matters.

Leading on improving the culture of the Development Management service to ensure that the service is operating in accordance with Our Identity, is customer focused and striving for continuous improvement.

Working model: Hybrid (50% of working hours from home)
